Christmas Coffee Beans at Ristretto
Avoid ending up drinking and offering &!@## coffee during the Holiday Season and buy up some good beans NOW! Coffee beans also make a great gift - if used promptly (within say 2 weeks from purchase) and stored correctly, particularly true for whole coffee beans. At Ristretto we have 250g and 1kg bags ready to go of our own 100% Arabica Custom Blend. The beans are freshly roasted to develop...

Final Friday Coffee Cupping for 2008.
The final ‘08 Coffee Cupping at Ristretto will take place this Friday at 1:30pm. The coffee lineup will be same/ similar with all coffees specially roasted for the session. So there’s plenty of great East Africans to explore - including nice & new Fresh Crop Ididio Misty Valley (IMV) from Ethiopia and an outrageous Giakanja from Kenya that we’re also roasting up a bit darker...

We'll take 3 Beans over 5 Stars - anyday!

Back to The Table... Coffee Cupping Returns!

I spotted the old Home Roasting Device (a modified popcorn popper) which had spent a good six months laying idle in a kitchen cupboard. Moments later it was in my hand. My next move - go get some beans; as coffee cupping returns to Ristretto tomorrow! Coffee Cuppinghas been a fixture at Ristretto Espresso...

This Week's Single Origin Coffee - El Salvador San...
This is a pulped natural processed bourbon varietal of arabica coffee grown at high altitude in Northern El Salvador. A real strictly hard bean (SHB) grade with density well suited to espresso roasting. Jen Murray won the WABC in March this year (2008) and placed third nationally at the ABC using this coffee. I suspect this is from the same crop. We have two kilo bags of rested coffee (roasted on...

Water Filtration System Upgrade - in progress...
At Ristretto we’re in the middle of upgrading our water filtration system. Away from a DVA water softener + 2 stage filter to a complete five stage reverse osmosis + balancing (remineralisation) system. We’ll post some details on completion. With espresso comprising of approx 95% water this is an important upgrade. Our desired outcomes are an improvement in mouth feel plus the range...
