Another Independant Coffee Review/ About our Espresso Blend/ Perth Coffee
“They (Ristretto) use a 5 Senses blend, but it has really strong taste, unlike most of the other 5 Senses cafes. I’d highly recommend this place if you really want to know your tasting the coffee – note that it isn’t burnt at all, just strong.”

Kewl - Kudos - We lap this sort of thing up but why we want to share this is that it makes many key points about our custom Ristretto coffee blend which we’re always trying to get across.
At Ristretto we wanted our custom coffee blend to provide a rich rewarding full flavour that cuts through milk and is tasty, sound in structure and refreshing as an espresso/ short traditional drink.
A few things about the coffee many many people in Perth now enjoy pretty much everyday…
The Ristretto Blend is/ was:
- Resembles the traditional mocha java blend profile for a rich, full bodied coffee with good fruit and chocolate notes that has presence, is bold but isn’t overpowering. Its a medium espresso roast with a great spectrum of flavour no burnt/ dark/ roast character and related bitterness.
- Developed further over 6 weeks and has had refinements over the last four months adding some sweet toasty notes and a little bit of boldness. Doesn’t really have a name. Roasts reliably down at Five Senses Coffee (Thanks Richo+Jay+Luke).
- Quality Assured (OMG!!!). We cup each roast of beans and try it in most forms of drinks. We also work our Synesso and Robur grinders intensely tuning them to the coffee. Without this best of breed equipment which we vigorously maintain in top condition we could not produce such volumes as consistently.
- Pretty much ”World Class” - it brings back the experience and reminds us of the quality of some of the great espresso had throughout New York City. Big UP NYC. Tweaks to the Synesso and Water Filtration since this visit have also helped our coffee quality and flavour in general.
