Ristretto Perth - "City's best coffee"!

FRESH Magazine, the Thursday good food guide to Perth with The West Australian, recently wrote up their team (and on-the-street spy’s) selection of new and new-ish venues, products and treats to try.

Ristretto Espresso Specialists Perth was reviewed under the “NEW COFFEE SPOT” section and touted as “home of the city’s best coffee”.

Wow - “best” coffee in Perth… that’s a big one - so thank you very much FRESH and to all our customers, suppliers and staff.

Ristretto is definitely here to bring change, and change for the better with regards to the standard of coffee and surrounding experience in Perth. We promise to keep up the hard work and quality coffee for next time.

If you don’t agree that Ristretto is not at least among the very very best or haven’t tried our coffee and experience please visit us soon.

Thanks again everyone.

Another Independant Coffee Review/ About our Espresso Blend/ Perth Coffee

“They (Ristretto) use a 5 Senses blend, but it has really strong taste, unlike most of the other 5 Senses cafes. I’d highly recommend this place if you really want to know your tasting the coffee – note that it isn’t burnt at all, just strong.”

- Grumpy Coffee Blog

Kewl - Kudos - We lap this sort of thing up but why we want to share this is that it makes many key points about our custom Ristretto coffee blend which we’re always trying to get across.

At Ristretto we wanted our custom coffee blend to provide a rich rewarding full flavour that cuts through milk and is tasty, sound in structure and refreshing as an espresso/ short traditional drink.

A few things about the coffee many many people in Perth now enjoy pretty much everyday…

The Ristretto Blend is/ was:

- Resembles the traditional mocha java blend profile for a rich, full bodied coffee with good fruit and chocolate notes that has presence, is bold but isn’t overpowering. Its a medium espresso roast with a great spectrum of flavour no burnt/ dark/ roast character and related bitterness.

- Developed further over 6 weeks and has had refinements over the last four months adding some sweet toasty notes and a little bit of boldness. Doesn’t really have a name. Roasts reliably down at Five Senses Coffee (Thanks Richo+Jay+Luke).

- Quality Assured (OMG!!!). We cup each roast of beans and try it in most forms of drinks. We also work our Synesso and Robur grinders intensely tuning them to the coffee. Without this best of breed equipment which we vigorously maintain in top condition we could not produce such volumes as consistently.

- Pretty much ”World Class” - it brings back the experience and reminds us of the quality of some of the great espresso had throughout New York City. Big UP NYC. Tweaks to the Synesso and Water Filtration since this visit have also helped our coffee quality and flavour in general.

Melbourne Syphon Coffee Night

I haven’t posted much lately because I’ve kind of been in a bad mood since missing this night at St Ali. I so much wanted to be there while in town. Agggghh! Ok, that’s better.

AASCA DETPAK Australian Barista Championships

Just attended the Australian Barista Championships- a great (long) weekend of coffee and people and coffee. Michael over at Cafe Grendal has covered the event using updates provided by myself and the live video feed posted at www.ustream.tv (search for “gunbarista”). I recommend you hit these for detail. Will post a few things a little later. For now, I would like to congratulate the first place champs - Tim Adams (QLD) Australian Barista Champion, Erin Sampson (VIC) Latte Art Champion, Ben Bicknel (WA - though you’re moving interstate we’re still claiming you as a Sand-groper!) Cupping Champion and Kirby Berlin (VIC/TAS) Coffee in Good Spirits Champ. Well done. Same to all involved and attendees. Great crowd/ audience/ supporters in the hundreds!!! If I was to leave just one comment it would be along the lines of - How amazingly close every comp final was. There you go!

Luca at Pourquality blog posted a great write up of the weekend up here.
